The Division of Public Buildings contracted with Hudson Meridian Construction Group to serve as the project Construction Management (HMCG) firm to provide pre-construction, construction, and post construction services for delivery of a New Facility for the Bronx Animal Care Center and Veterinary Clinic in the Borough of the Bronx for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The CM shall provide services necessary and required for the inspection, supervision, management, coordination, and administration of the Project so that the required construction work is properly executed. to build a new facility to provide the City with necessary animal care and rehabilitation services that support a safe, healthy, comfortable, and humane environment for animals, staff, and visitors. The facility will include an animal shelter and veterinary medical clinic with administrative headquarters operated by Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC), one of the largest animal welfare organizations in New York City, and a wildlife rehabilitation center with educational programming operated by the Wild Bird Fund (WBF), an organization that rehabilitates thousands of birds and other animals each year before releasing them back to the wild. Overall, the new facility will support the City and DOHMH’s mission to promote and protect the health, safety, and welfare of animals and people in New York City. The Project will consist of a new approximately 50,000 SF facility, including a center for wildlife rehabilitation and education. The animal shelter portion of the facility will house admissions, adoptions, medical services, and boarding for approximately 70 dogs, 140 cats, 30 rabbits, and 20 animals of other species. Support spaces will include offices, restrooms, and storage. Site work will include yards to facilitate dog adoptions, covered exercise runs, courtyards, and parking for staff, visitors, and shelter vehicles, as well as site lighting and low-maintenance planting throughout. The building and associated landscape are to be as sustainable as possible, achieving LEED Gold standards or higher.
